The Friends of Heritage State Park, headed by Paul Simister, saw the need to provide the people of Fall River with a festival after FRCA was taken away. From Friday to Sunday there will be carnival rides, food vendors, merchants’ stands, and concerts at Heritage State Park. Entry to the festival, which includes access to the concerts as well, is completely free of charge.
Summerfest runs Friday 6 to 10 p.m., Saturday, noon to 10 p.m. and Sunday noon to 9 p.m.
On Saturday and Sunday, the always popular Kids World Celebration will be featured. Kids can hunt through sand to find buried treasure, learn about bird eating tarantula’s from the Animal Instincts pet shop crew, test out their musical talent on instruments provided by TJ’s Music, watch performances from the best young dancers in the area, come face to face with superheroes of all shapes and sizes, and participate in countless other activities.
On Friday night at 6 p.m., Changes in Latitude, a Jimmy Buffett tribute band, will perform. Roadwork, a rock and roll band comprised of 14 year olds, hope to steal the show on Saturday at 3 and 6 p.m. Tim Sharon and Band, from Nashville, will follow them at 7:30 p.m. The Mercy Bullets, who specialize in rock, country, and punk music, will play at 4 p.m. on Sunday and The Reminiscents, bringing the best of the ’50s, ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s, will cap off the concert festivities with their show at 6:30.
Like most of the other features of Summerfest, Kids World attractions will be free. The only charges associated with the entire event are those for rides and food.
