Teen dating violence 'app' out

There is a new free "app" that can be downloaded to smart phones.  Click here for a link to more informaiton.

The new 'app' helps young people recognize the signs of abuse, and learn what they can do about it.  Most teenagers spend a lot of time on their smart phones, and now there's a new app, a 'td4-1-1', that's available to help them address a real concern for too many of them, teen dating violence.

Our Sisters' Place Marks 20 Years Serving Citizens of Fall River

This year marks 20 years of serving Fall River for Our Sisters’ Place, and we are looking for past Board Members, Staff, Volunteers and Community Partners to help mark this milestone with an event in October during Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

31st Annual Hazelwood 5K Run/Walk

The Greater New Bedford Track Club is excited to announce the running of its 31st Annual Hazelwood Women’s 5K Run/Walk on Sunday, May 16, 2010, at 10 a.m. at Hazelwood Park (553 Brock Ave.) in New Bedford to benefit The Women’s Center.

A fun run for children 10 and under will begin at 9:30. Registration 15 minutes before the fun run is required. The 5K race will be professionally timed by 5K Sports Race Management.

Denim Day 2010

On Denim Day, wearing denim to school or work shows support for victims of sexual assault. Denim Day began as part of an international protest of an Italian Supreme Court decision that overturned a rape conviction because the victim wore tight jeans. The justices stated that the victim must have helped her attacker remove her jeans, from which they inferred consent. The unpopular verdict became an international symbol of myth-based injustice for sexual assault victims.
