Career Day at B.M.C Durfee High School

Career Day at Durfee High School:  Professionals Wanted

Date: Thursday, February 3, 2011
Location: Durfee High School- Field House
Time: 8:30 am - 11:30 am

The Bristol Workforce Investment Board and B.M.C. Durfee High School are seeking volunteers to talk to students about their profession, career field, experience and education. Our goal is to have a wide variety of career fields represented and for students to have the opportunity to make a “real world” connection to these careers.

The following are some of the career fields in which students have expressed the most interest:

Medicine, Education, Law, Arts, Law Enforcement, Nursing, Psychology, Pharmacy, Business, Veterinary Science... but every career field is welcome!

Career Day is an informational career fair where students can meet with professionals in their careers of interest. Students will research careers that they are interested in learning more about and will do a research project as part of their academic coursework. Guidance staff will prepare students for Career Day, giving tips on how to present themselves and interview professionals. As part of this preparation, the students will be given an interview questionnaire and will be required to select 2-4 professionals they would like to interview.

Between 8:30am and 11:30am approximately 600 students will come through the fair. Students will have approximately 45 minutes to interview the professionals they have pre-selected.
