Every Workplace Can Be Healthy!

Partners for a Healthier Community, the organization that funds the Healthy City Fall River project, is inviting small businesses in Greater Fall River to participate in a new program designed specifically for them. The Healthy Worksites is a program that will give employers the tools that they can use to help their employees lead a healthier lifestyle.

Healthy Worksites will help employers provide resources that their employees can use to improve their health without taking time off from busy work schedules. It is well known that employees who pay attention to their health make better employees. Larger corporations have invested heavily in worksite wellness programs because they know that there is a big return on investment.

Partners was recently funded by the University of Massachusetts-Lowell’s Center for Health in the Workplace to provide the program free of charge for the first year to the first twenty businesses in the Fall River Area who participate. The grant will pay for start-up costs and some basic research to learn what works best to get smaller employers to offer wellness resources.

Employers who want to sign up for the program will need to agree to participate in a short survey for themselves and their employees, but they will be offered gift cards for their participation. Once the first year’s research is complete, employers will be able to continue the program for only $10 per employee per year.

“This is a great opportunity for some of our smaller local businesses to get the same benefits of worksite wellness programs that the big corporations have been getting,” said Worksite Wellness coordinator Angela Bannister.

Ms. Bannister will be looking for small business owners and managers who want to sign up for the program in the coming weeks. All that is required is the willingness to enroll in the program that will start in June and to participate in a couple of quick survey questionnaires later in the year.
