Massachusetts Promise Fellows deliver the resources that young people need to be successful in life by mobilizing and organizing community activity, creating and leading powerful initiatives, and training and inspiring citizen volunteers.
The Massachusetts Promise Fellowship achieves this by placing Fellows with non-profit organizations and state/local government agencies that focus on fulfilling the needs of our youth by providing; a caring adult, a safe place, a healthy start, a marketable skill, and an opportunity to give back.
Service Description
The Greater Fall River Re-Creation Committee, Inc. (CD Rec) provides year-round recreational, educational, and cultural programs for Fall River residents with a particular emphasis on socioeconomically disadvantaged youth. The agency’s goal is to provide a variety of programs ranging from participatory sports and creative classes to educational presentations and theatrical/musical performances for those who would otherwise be unable to afford or participate in these programs. The Fellow at CD Rec will work with the Promise Leaders of Tomorrow (PLOT) and will lead Fall River’s newest Youth Initiative-the development of a Youth Master Plan Council that will fulfill the Youth Bill of Rights signed by officials in August of 2009.
