MA– (June 28, 2011) – Horizons for Homeless Children, a Massachusetts non-profit organization dedicated to meeting the needs of homeless children and their families, held its 15thAnnual Recognition and Awards Dinner recently at The Colonnade Hotel in Boston. The event acknowledged the hundreds of Playspace Activity Leaders (PALs), volunteers who spend time with homeless children each week, as well as the numerous companies, partnering agencies and staff that support Horizons for Homeless Children in their efforts to improve the quality of life for homeless children and their families.

At the Recognition Dinner,  Marianne Neergaard who volunteers at Our Sister's Place in Fall River was presented with the 2011 PAL of the Year Award for her incredible dedication to Horizons for Homeless Children’s Playspace Programs. Marianne is the longest-serving PAL of the Southeast Playspace Region. She began as a college student in 2006 and each Thursday since then, she has volunteered for two hours at the Playspace at Our Sister’s Place in Fall River. The fact that she drives 1.5 hours from Woburn to the shelter each week is testament to her true dedication as a PAL.

Horizons for Homelss Children partners with 3 local homeless shelters in Fall River to provide Playspaces filled with education materials for children living at the shelters.  They also recruite and train volunteers who play with the children for 2 hours per week.  If you would like to learn more about volunteering please call 508 510-3250.
