Job Description: Nutrition Consultant (Contracted Position)

Job Summary: The nutrition consultant will develop and implement a quality nutrition program for Head Start.

Reports To: Health & Nutrition Coordinator

Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Assess nutritional status and special dietary needs of children and their families from information provided by family, health records and the nurse.
  2. Provide nutrition counseling for parents/guardians.
  3. Plan and provide nutrition education for staff.
  4. Plan and provide nutrition education for parents.
  5. Plan/Review menus for 8 week cycle.
  6. Participate in Self-Assessment process of Nutrition Component.
  7. Provide guidance to Health & Nutrition Coordinator for any nutritional concerns.
  8. Participate as an active member of the Health Advisory Committee.
  9. Plan/Review nutrition curriculum.
  10. Menu planning meeting with parents.
  11. Perform any other necessary duties required to implement a quality nutrition program.

The above duties may require between 20 - 60 hours yearly for which compensation will be $40.00 per hour. Upon presentation of a signed verified invoice by the consultant CFC Head start agrees to pay accordingly. As a contracted position, the undersigned is responsible for all resulting tax liabilities

Qualifications

  • Must possess a current registration with the American Dietetic Association.
  • A Master’s Degree from an approved program in public health nutrition may be substituted for this registration. 
  • Must possess an attitude, which is consistent with the profession of nutrition, Early Childhood Education, U.S.D.A. requirements and Head Start Performance Standards.
