SSTAR Outpatient Groups

The following outpatient groups at SSTAR are currently open to new members.
 
Call 508-679-5222 for admission information and for information about any of these groups. Most forms of insurance are accepted and a sliding scale is available for substance abuse treatment. An intake evaluation must be completed with a clinician before attending a group.
 
Domestic Violence Educational Group. Meets every Wednesday from 10:30-12:00am.   Topics include: Defining abuse, Cycle of Abuse, Why People Batter, Why Women Stay, The Cycle of Abuse, Recognizing Red Flags in abusive relationships, The Effects on Children who Witness, Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome, Co-dependency.  Female survivors only for this group.  Interactive, supportive and educational.  Contact Dale Brown, M.Ed., LMHC 508-324-3529
 
Women’s Evening Domestic Violence Group is an educational group for women who are interested in learning about domestic abuse.  Topics include:  Defining Abuse, Cycle of Abuse, Why People Batter, Why People Stay in Abusive Relationships, Red Flags and Warning Signs, Children Who Witness, Post Traumatic Stress, and Co-dependency.  Contact Nancy Granshaw, MSW, LCSW at 508-679-5222 x3370 for more information
 
Pattern Changing Group. Meets Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. beginning June 25, 2009.Some of the topics include: Assertiveness, Identifying old Patterns, Growing up Female, Boundary Issues, Letting Go of Anger and Old Relationships, Healing from Grief/Loss, Self Esteem– Goal Setting, Moving Forward, Learning to Relax: Meditation. Open to women only. Parenting Wisdom. Meets Wednesdays from 5 pm – 6:30 pm. The Evening Parenting Group gives parents, both Moms and Dads, a chance to discuss parenting concerns in a group led by a trained clinician. A Certificate of Attendance will be awarded after 10 weeks of attendance.
 
Pain Management. Meets Wednesdays from 10:30 am – 12:00 pm. Teaches individuals alternate coping skills for ameliorating chronic pain.  Cognitive behavioral therapy, stress management skills, visual imagery, breathing exercises, and relaxation techniques are utilized to achieve greater comfort for the participants. 
 
Creative Expression Group. This group utilizes a variety of creative techniques to express one’s self. The purpose of this group is to sooth one’s spirit, mind, and body from depression, anxiety, lack of motivation, repressed feelings, etc. through the use of painting, drawing, journal keeping, collage, music, movement, drama and discussion. Building Ourselves Recovery Group…A new relapse recovery group that will be held on Saturday mornings, designed for exploring who we are in our recovery process and building ourselves from there. This group will address relapse resistance, self esteem, triggers, motivation, self appreciation, and more. Common Bond…meets 1st Tuesday of the Month from5 pm—6:15 pm.   Recovery based group exclusive to the Intensive Outpatient Program/ IOP alumni.
 
Seeking Safety meets Tuesdays from 10:30am – 12:00pm. A structured group for women recovering from substance use and trauma. Topics include: Coping with Triggers, Detaching from Emotional Pain, Taking Good Care of Yourself, Healing from Anger, Recovery Thinking, Asking for Help, and Setting Boundaries in Relationships. For more information, please contact Heather Harley, LICSW at 508-679-5222ext 4255.
 
Staying Sane- meets Wednesdays from 7pm – 8:30 pm. A relapse prevention support group.
