Fall River Youth Violence Prevention: Confronting Discrimination

The Confronting Discrimination Committee mission is to start the conversation of discrimination within the City of Fall River. This is a pro-active group, not a reactive group. The committee focuses on any issue that may fall under the umbrella of discrimination whether it may be gender, LGBTQ+, age, ability/disability, race, class, religion, etc. This team is a mix of youth, community leaders, and elected city officials. This committee meets monthly for an engaging presentation followed by a discussion.

Make a Wish Foundation - Volunteer Opportunity

For more than 35 years, A Wish Come True, Inc. has been granting wishes to children age 3 through 18 who suffer from life threatening illnesses, and live in Rhode Island and parts of southeastern Massachusetts. It has been quite a journey, and the lives of countless children and their families have been positively impacted as a result of this journey.

The idea is to make their lives a little brighter and give them something to look forward to, and not have to think about their illness all the time. A Wish Come True gives children and their families a chance to set aside the illness, and have opportunities to do things or go places other children and families experience. The mission and goal is to grant every medically qualified child “one memorable wish.” A Wish Come True, Inc. was the first organization of its kind in this area, granting wishes to 12 children in the first year and now average approximately a wish a week.

Today more than ever, A Wish Come True needs your help. Volunteers are the key to this organizations’ long, successful history of putting smiles on the faces of some very courageous children.

If you would like to help out, join us on Monday, February 6th from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the Boys & Girls Club, 803 Bedford Street . Volunteers of all ages are needed to help stuff envelopes for the annual A Wish Come True fundraiser. Pizza and soda will be served.
