Fall River Rotary Club Members Take Part in 'Fill a Backpack' Project

 

Fall River Rotary Club members, in a joint project with Citizens Union Savings Bank, got into the back-to-school spirit with their "Fill a Backpack" project. Rotary Club members arrived early for their weekly meeting and filled one-hundred backpacks with notebooks,binders, glue sticks, pens, pencils, rulers, folders, markers and more. The backpacks were presented to Greater Fall River non-profit organizations who will distribute the bags to children under their care. Representatives from Family Service, Association Big Friends/Little Friends and Child and Family Services Inc., United Neighbors of Fall River, The Women's Center L.O.F.T. Program, and Bristol Elder Services accepted backpacks.

First Peace Pole "Planted" in Griffin Park

The first of more than forty-five Peace Poles created by 25 local organizations was "planted" at Griffin Park on May 12, 2010. The event was one of several initiatives aimed at creating a more peaceful community by raising awareness and promoting empowerment, collaboration and connection to reduce and prevent violence."Throughout the City, both indoors and out, poles will be planted to serve as a constant visual reminder that peace is truly attainable if the community works together," stated United Neighbors director Wendy Garf-Lipp. The World Peace Prayer Society contributed handcrafted desktop peace poles to be given to Mayor  Flanagan, Acting Fall River Police Chief Dan Racine, Bristol County DA Samuel Sutter, and the Fall River Shannon Community Safety Initiative.

Peace by Piece Summit

On March 27, 2010, the Violence Prevention Task Force will be holding its Second Annual Peace by Piece Summit. This year the summit will be held at Kuss Middle School, 53 Globe Mills Avenue. Members of the Peaceful Coalition will be featured as the Keynote speakers. Throughout the day there will be workshops that will help us learn to promote a more peaceful community and develop and implement strategies, programs and policies that address the issues of violence prevention in our community.

United Neighbors of Fall River Press Release

United Neighbors of Fall River would like to announce that they have become a member of the America’s Promise Alliance as a Promise Place. United Neighbors of Fall River joins the Community Development Recreation Center, CDREC, as a Promise Place within the City of Fall River.
