Citywide Park Cleanup & YMCA Collection Day

Strap on your sneakers because May 22nd is all about getting down to the dirty work. Mayor Flanagan, in coordination with the Fall River Park Advocacy Group, will be hosting the first of many citywide park cleanup efforts. You can volunteer to help out your neighborhood park by calling the Park Advocates at 508-324-2405. The Fall River YMCA will be hosting their 1st Annual Collection Day on May 1st.

Fitness Challenge Finale celebrates 5,057 pounds lost!

The Fall River Fitness Challenge held its 2009 Finale at the Eagle Restaurant on May 9th celebrating the conclusion of the four-month series that began on January 10th. Over seventy-five participants and their supporters got to her remarks from Fitness Instructor Amy Jones, Mark Kruger from the NBC television show "The Biggest Loser, 2008 Challenge winner Daryl Parrent and Healthy City Fall River coordinator Dr. David Weed.

Zumba classes a Fitness Challenge hit at the YMCA

 As part of the 2009 Fitness Challenge sponsored by the Diabetes Association, Inc. (DAI), Community Development Recreation (CD-REC), and Healthy City Fall River, the Fall River YMCA has been offering Zumba, a low-impact fitness workout held to Latin and international music on Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m. and Friday's at 6:30 p.m. Led on Tuesdays by YMCA fitness trainer Tabitha Gendreau and on Fridays by Alainna Cochrane, participants go though a variety of heart-healthy moves designed to stretch and tone the whole body. The YMCA is also offering a very low rate of $2 for other exercise classes, including yoga, step aerobics and Pilates, and the use of their pool during the Fitness Challenge period that runs until May 9th.
