Community Supported Agriculture

July 26, 2010 by KGunderson

Over the last 20 years, Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) has become a popular way for consumers to buy local, seasonal food directly from a farmer.  Here are the basics: a farmer offers a certain number of "shares" to the public -a box of vegetables, but other farm products may be included. Interested consumers purchase a share (aka a "membership" or a "subscription") and in return receive a box (or a bag or basket) of seasonal produce each week throughout the farming season. This arrangement creates a number of advantages for farmers and consumers, not to mention the local economy. For more information on CSA’s and how to “join” locally, visit http://www.localharvest.org and type your zip code in the search bar.

Buses and Bicycles

June 30, 2010 by KGunderson

Commuting in Fall River is getting easier these days- especially with the addition of bike racks on city buses. Next time you have errands to do in and around the city, you can take the bus up the hills and bicycle down them. The bike racks hold two bicycles at a time and with the option to lock the bike to the rack itself. Not only is it a healthy, greener alternative to taking your car during the warm months, but it's a great way to beat the rush hour traffic.
